Our upright freezer went out in February 2023. We emptied the contents, let it defrost, then I put this regular DIY odor removal tablet inside to wipe out any bacteria, fungi, and spores from growing. 

Parts were a challenge since the freezer is so old that parts are not available any longer. What I thought would be a simple parts exchange is now something much more, with a bit of guesswork. I ordered both parts which may fix the freezer, but by the time the parts showed up we were used to walking past our broken freezer and it sat unloved all summer. 

It is time to fix or trash the freezer. I opened the door to find a completely neutral scent, zero mold or mildew smells, and this jar with the simple salts having settled to the bottom, leaving the water, which was from our kitchen sink, up top. Half of the water had evaporated (it went to the “m” on the right side of the label, which is how we know when we have the required 5 ounces for our Regular DIY Odor Removal Tablet.

I was delighted at how well our ClO2 performed; chlorine dioxide (ClO2) is anti-viral, anti-bacterial, anti-fungal, neutralizes spores and is hypoallergenic. After 8 months of warm, humid, confined space, nothing had grown because the ClO2 neutralized all the stuff in the environment, making the airspace virtually sterile.
