Tips For Cleaning Your Home After A Party

Parties are the best! Gathering with friends and family is always a highlight.

What about after the party? How do you get your house back to normal? Here are some hints and tips to make sure your home is odor-, and pathogen-free.

  1. Clean out the trash and recycling. If you’re reading this, you are likely not the person to whom this needs to be said. However, we frequently get called to odor removal jobs for malodors that could have been prevented by simply throwing out the pizza boxes and mostly-empty beverage containers. Spend a few minutes bagging up the trash and getting it out of the house. Do the earth a favor and give bottles and cans a quick rinse and then recycle.
  2. Wipe down surfaces to get visible dirt. Spray on your favorite non-toxic surface cleaner, let it set for 30 seconds or more to give it time to neutralize pathogens, then wipe clean. Check the container to be sure you don’t need to give it a water-rinse to get rid of toxic film; the most popular brands of ready-to-use wipes require a thorough water rinse after use. Our products do not require this extra rinse, since they are genuinely non-toxic and approved for use on food surfaces, but they are not available in stores. Contact us for a sample next time we service your property.
  3. Vacuum. This is normal cleaning, and it helps so much to get the extra “stuff” out of the house. Remove the extra dander and food bits, etc., then empty the vacuum, if bagless, in the trash. If your vacuum has a bag, make sure to change it every week or two, especially if you have a house with pets, as their hair and dander breaks down, just like ours breaks down, and gets stinky in the process.
  4. Clean the bathrooms. Nobody likes cleaning the bathrooms, but it is imperative to get rid of “oops and poops” so pathogens and bacteria are stopped from spreading and growing. Again, use a surface cleaner and let it dwell at least 30 seconds before wiping and then water rinsing. Make sure bathroom trash cans are emptied and wash the dirty towels.Lysol Free From Chem Reisude Wipe with water Odor removal and disinfection you can trust.
  5. Check the walls for smears. Use your cleaner and/or a white eraser sponge. The white eraser sponge will dullthe sheen of paint, so use with caution, especially on semi-gloss painted surfaces. If you use a spray, make sure it’s water-based and does not have a bleaching effect. Our non-toxic cleaner is perfect here.
  6. Finally, double check nooks and crannies and under furniture. Spilled food and used plates have a way of wandering under furniture; embarrassed guests don’t want someone stepping on their dropped food, so they will sweep it under the nearest thing with their foot and they often forget to pick it up and throw it away once it’s out of sight.

If this sounds like pretty typical cleaning, it is, with a little extra. Having a odor-free, germ-free home is much easier if those pathogens and bacteria are removed before they really spread. Party planning should include an extra hour or two to clean immediately after the party or the next day, especially if you are going away straight afterwards. A little bit of time will keep you and your family healthy and your home odor-free and germ-free. If something did not get cleaned quite thoroughly enough, give us a call after your cleaning and we’ll neutralize those odors permanently, leaving your home odor-free and germ-free, even neutralizing tiny, tiny germs and odors that are smaller than the human eye can observe. We would love to help you today!
