Cigarette smoke in a house you just bought, a kitchen fire that left no visible damage but made the place unlivable, or a rental that still smells like the last tenant. Smoke is not a surface problem. The particles are small enough to travel into drywall, insulation, carpet pad and duct work, which is why cleaning and repainting almost never hold. Master Germ and Odor Removal treats smoke at the depth it actually reached, then heat tests the surfaces to confirm there is nothing left to come back.
Smoke odor is difficult because smoke does not sit on your surfaces, it goes into them. Smoke particles are smaller than a micron, which makes them fine enough to pass into the pores of drywall, insulation, carpet pad, grout, unfinished wood and framing. In a fire the problem gets worse, because heat expands those materials and opens their pores wider, pressure drives the smoke deep inside, and then everything cools and closes around the residue and traps it there.
Master Germ and Odor Removal has been doing this work for more than 8 years, and permanent is a word we use carefully. It means the residue producing the smell is removed or sealed rather than covered, and we work in the order that makes that possible. Cleaning and degreasing come first, because smoke residue is acidic and deodorizing over it just locks a corrosive film in place. Then we thermal fog, which heats the treatment until it vaporizes into particles.
Years of experience
Our deepest odor service, built for cigarette, cigar, cannabis, wildfire and structure fire smoke. It covers residue removal, thermal fogging, ozone where the building can be emptied, duct and coil treatment, and sealing of anything that cannot be taken out. Contents can be treated alongside the structure. This is the service the word permanent applies to.
For everything that is not smoke. Pet urine in the carpet pad, musty air traced back to a leak, sewer gas from a dry drain trap, garbage odor, dead animal smell in a wall or attic, and the stale air of a house closed up for the season. We locate the source with blacklight and moisture mapping first.
Spice and cooking oil odor bonds to the grease film on cabinets, walls, ceilings and vent hoods, so it needs degreasing before any treatment will stick. It behaves more like a kitchen residue problem than an air problem, which is why it is priced and scheduled on its own.
Surface level pathogen work rather than odor work. We treat the high touch points that carry illness through a building using EPA registered products matched to the organism, then take before and after swab readings so the reduction is measured rather than claimed.
Preventive treatment on a repeating schedule for shared surfaces in offices, gyms, daycares and salons. Lighter than disinfection on purpose, and designed to keep everyday germ levels down week to week rather than react to an outbreak.
One time deep treatment after something has already happened, including confirmed illness, biohazard clean up and medical settings needing hospital grade work. This is where our residual protection of up to 90 days applies, and it is available 24/7.
We heat test before calling it done: Warming a treated surface forces leftover residue to re-emit. If anything is left, we will find it before you do in July.
Thermal fog is vaporized to roughly smoke particle size, so it reaches the same pores the smoke got into instead of stopping at the surface.
Smoke film is acidic and keeps etching metal and glass. Sealing over it locks the damage in, so we clean and degrease first.
Smoke gets pulled through the return and coats the whole system. Skip it and the odor is back in every room the next time the AC runs.
Framing, subfloor and sheathing get shellac based primer, because nicotine bleeds straight through ordinary latex paint and yellows it again.
Wet smoke comes from slow smoldering fires burning at lower temperatures, often plastics and rubber, and it leaves a sticky smeary film with a sharp pungent smell that spreads if you wipe it wrong. Dry smoke comes from fast hot fires with plenty of oxygen, and the residue is powdery and easier to lift, but it travels much further and settles deep into cracks, wall cavities and porous surfaces.
| Factor | Cleaning & Repainting | Rented Ozone Machine | Master Germ & Odor Removal |
|---|---|---|---|
| Reaches Inside Drywall & Insulation | No. Only the surface is treated. | Partly. Reaches the air and exposed surfaces. | Yes. Thermal fog follows the same path as smoke and penetrates hidden areas. |
| Residue Removed Before Deodorizing | No. Paint is applied over existing residue. | No. Ozone does not remove residue. | Yes. Surfaces are cleaned and degreased before deodorizing. |
| Duct System & AC Coil Treated | No. | Rarely. The HVAC system is usually left off. | Yes. Ductwork and the AC coil are treated to prevent odor recirculation. |
| Works on Protein & Kitchen Fire Film | No. Residue can bleed through the finish. | Limited effectiveness on greasy residue. | Yes. Protein and grease residues are removed before deodorization. |
| Stops Nicotine Bleeding Through Paint | No. Latex paint often yellows again. | No. | Yes. Surfaces are sealed with a shellac-based primer when needed. |
| Handles Acidic Residue & Corrosion | No. Acidic residue continues damaging surfaces. | No. | Yes. Acidic residue is removed before it causes further corrosion. |
| Smell Returns in Summer Heat | Usually yes. | Often within a few weeks. | No. The odor source is removed rather than temporarily suppressed. |
| How the Result is Verified | Visual inspection only. | By smell after ozone treatment. | Heat testing performed on treated surfaces to confirm odor removal. |

EXCELLENT Based on 16 reviews Posted on Google Serge ShariyTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Easy to deal with. Dave was punctual, professional and knowledgeable, friendly and made us feel safe and took the time to answer all our questions and explained to us what to expect. He kept our home clean during prep, treatment and when he completed his work. He came on very short notice and did a wonderful job in our home neutralizing volatile organic compounds (both the voc smell and chemical toxic side effects) from grout solvent based sealer that had seeped throughout the house , all our belongings, and hvac system . Thank you!Posted on Google Devi PatelTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. I literally tried so many things to get rid of the smoke smell in my car for years and nothing worked. It would just linger in the air vents and make my hair smell like smoke any time I turned on the AC. Then Dave came and my car smells like new again! It was so easy to do and I’m so happy with the results! I’m just upset I waited so long to call them. 10/10 recommend.Posted on Google Christi ReayTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. I had to trade in a car for one that smelled like someone had smoked in it. I am super sensitive to smells and get migraines easily to boot! I was worried about toxicity from ozone machines since I have had cancer and am very concerned with chemicals. So, I took a chance on Master Germ. The owner is so polite and helpful. I was worried at first because I could smell both the old smell and chlorine for quite awhile. The owner was great about responding to my concerns. We both realized I am ultra sensitive to scent and he explained it could take 14 days for someone like me to notice longer smell the chlorine. I finally left the trunk open an entire day since the smell was dominantly in the back. Almost to the day, 14 days later I couldn’t smell it any more. It smells like a normal car now! He told me he is was willing to come back and redo it at any time is I wasn’t satisfied. He was honest, helpful, and super responsive. It is a bit more expensive than some who claim to remove smoke odors but it is beyond worth it. To me ozone machines don’t really remove the smells. My car smells and looks clean after all of his work. Don’t hesitate to use them—-it is way better than any other system!Posted on Google Brendon FriedmanTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google.
